Twenty Nadi-based micro and small business owners have been advised to upgrade their business knowledge to effectively market their products online.
Business Assistance of Fiji general manager Ramesh Chand said this was critical for micro and small business operators to note because things had changed a lot and the traditional way of promoting business had shifted online.
This was noted to them in an e-commerce training in Nadi last week.
“A lot of things have been done online and businesses need to upgrade themselves to match up with the demand that is there,” Mr Chand said.
“So not only that, but we have also during our consultancy sessions found out that people need these kinds of training so the demand and the need for people to be educated to promote the business on e-commerce platform is there.
“Now people need to be provided that support so that is why BAF is conducting this training,” Mr Chand said.
He shared that one of their core roles is to conduct diagnosis of small businesses in areas of financial management, accounting, strategic planning and marketing.
He said once a business was registered, they also identified areas where traders needed improvement before they were provided a report.
Mr Chand said it was for this very reason that they linked up with Greenhouse Studio to provide training for small and medium traders.
“We also build a network of service providers and we have a lot of service providers in various areas.
“So we identify the areas to diagnose and then we link them up with the service providers who can assist them in areas that need improvement and we also subsidise part of the service.
“So for instance, if there is a need to get the diagnosis in that the business that doesn’t have an e-commerce presence, they need to have a website or they need to have a social media page to promote their business.”
